Knowledge to Ponder: Proverbs 1: 10-19
“Mommy Kim (that’s what my kids, nieces and nephew call me), you should really try that on.”
That was the second time my nephew said that to me. The first time was a little more subtle—something like, “Don’t you want to try that on before we leave?”
Now, let me just say, I hate trying on clothes in stores. The bright lights, the tiny dressing rooms, the whole process—no thanks. And besides, this outfit? This outfit was fire. I could already see myself rocking it.
So, I did what any stubborn, confident, slightly lazy person would do—I ignored his advice.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that my nephew (being the smart kid he is) was gently trying to warn me. What he really wanted to say was, “Auntie, that doesn’t look like it’s gonna fit.” But nope, I was too sure of myself to listen.
Fast forward to when we got home—guess what? It didn’t fit.
I was frustrated. Meanwhile, my nephew—being the positive guy he is—just laughed and said, “I told you twice.” 😆
Lesson learned.
Big or Small—Choices Matter
Okay, so that wasn’t exactly a life-altering decision—just an inconvenient one. But it got me thinking: how often do we rush into choices without pausing to think?
How often do we ignore that little nudge, that gut feeling, or even direct advice because we assume we know best?
Some decisions are small and just mildly annoying when we get them wrong (like my outfit disaster). But others? They can change everything.
Proverbs 1:10-19 reminds us how important it is to choose wisely. Some decisions can literally mean the difference between life and destruction. That’s why it’s so important to stop, breathe, and—yes—ask God for guidance.
But Will God Answer Right Away?
I know, I know—some of you might be thinking, “God doesn’t always answer that fast.” But here’s where you’re mistaken.
He already knows our thoughts. He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us. And at the right moments, He fires off a response quicker than we realize—we just have to be still enough to hear it.
Think about those times you felt the right answer deep inside, that little tug in your heart steering you away from something. That’s Him. That’s God speaking through His Spirit, guiding you to the right path.
Who Are You Listening To?
It’s okay to get advice from family and friends—they love us and want what’s best. But at the end of the day, they’re human, too. They see things from an earthly perspective.
That’s why we need to call in the big guns—God Himself. Especially when the decision in front of us could compromise our morals, values, or who we are.
Because here’s the truth: just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t make it right.
We can choose to be better. We can choose to lead instead of follow. And we can choose to seek God first, knowing He wants to help us navigate the big and small decisions in life.
Three Takeaways for This Week:
✔️ Some choices are too important to leave to chance. It’s okay to ask for advice, but remember, even our most well-meaning friends can be just as lost as we are.
✔️ Lead with integrity. Don’t be afraid to stand alone. Just because the crowd is doing something doesn’t mean it’s the right thing.
✔️ God wants to be involved in your decisions. Start asking Him about the small stuff now, and when the big choices come, you’ll already be in the habit of seeking His wisdom.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for always having my back and guiding me—even when I don’t always make the best choices. Help me to rely on the Holy Spirit to make wise, Godly decisions. And when I mess up, thank You for working even my bad choices for good. Amen.
Now, you know what time it is! 🎶 Let’s worship!
