Knowledge to Ponder: Genesis 19: 15-29
Ever find yourself wandering down memory lane, asking “What if?”
What if I had made a different choice? What if I stayed? What if I tried harder?
Let me stop you right there—don’t do it.
That kind of thinking is a trap.
It pulls you into regret, second-guessing, and disobedience. And it doesn’t change a thing.
I’ve had a motto for years when it comes to relationships and tough decisions:
Never look back.
If it didn’t work then, no amount of daydreaming or what-if-ing will change the outcome now.
The same applies when God gives us direction.
Sometimes, even when He’s speaking clearly, we try to remix it—add our own spin.
That’s dangerous ground.
Remember Lot’s wife? One look back—and it cost her everything. (Luke 17:32)
Now, God may not turn us into salt today, but He will let us sit in the consequences of disobedience. And sometimes, that hits harder than we expected.
If you’ve walked away from sin or stepped into a new chapter with God, don’t go back to what He brought you out of.
2 Timothy 2:22 says it plain: “Flee from youthful lusts.”
Don’t flirt with the past—run from it.
Even the greats in the Bible made mistakes.
Abraham tried to help God with his own plan—and made a mess of things.
But here’s the beauty: God still used him.
He still answered his prayers.
He still honored the promise.
That’s grace.
So what’s the takeaway?
Stop obsessing over the past.
Keep your eyes on God.
The only time you should look back is to celebrate His faithfulness—not to question your past.
3 Actionable Steps to Move Forward in Faith:
- Shut the door on “what if.”
When your thoughts drift to past decisions, stop and remind yourself: “God brought me through for a reason.” - Start your day with surrender.
Ask God, “Where are we going today?” and be ready to follow—not lead. - Write down a victory list.
List 3 times God made a way in your past. Let that be your motivation to keep walking forward in faith.
Prayer: Lord you are a forward moving God. This I know from my own experiences. Help me to remember that and continue to move forward as I experience you from day to day. I don’t want to look back and feel regret, I want to trust in you and know that every experience and every day is indeed an opportunity for me to continue moving forward. Help me to surrender my mind to you on a daily basis so that we can move forward together. Let me know at the close of each day, that I can rest assured that I have followed your will and walking in your faith.
Now it is time to give him the praise – it’s worship time. I Surrender by Tasha Cobb Leonard, this is a dance one!
