Knowledge to Ponder: Lamentations 1: 1-11
White. Everywhere…..
That’s all I could see when I woke up Wednesday morning. Everything looked like it had been carefully placed by some magical winter decorator elves—unbothered, untouched, pristine. I stood there in awe, soaking in the beauty of freshly fallen snow. “Nice,” I thought. Then suddenly came the urge.
I just had to touch it.
So, I threw on my shoes, ran outside, and scooped up a handful of that powdery white goodness.
Big mistake.
Freezing pain shot through my hands like I’d grabbed an icicle straight from the North Pole. “That was dumb,” I muttered to myself. “It’s pretty, but wow, it’s cold!” Turns out, some things are better admired from a distance.
It got me thinking. Isn’t life like that sometimes? You see something shiny and exciting, and without a second thought, you dive right in. You don’t stop to ask questions or consider the consequences. You just go for it. And then—bam! Reality hits, and you’re left wondering why you didn’t think it through.
This isn’t a new phenomenon. (Spoiler alert: people have been doing this for centuries.) Take the Israelites in Lamentations 1:1–11. They were God’s chosen people, yet they ended up defeated, captured, and empty. Why? Because they let themselves be led astray. They made choices without thinking about the bigger picture, and boy, did it cost them.
And here’s the kicker: we’ve all done it. (Yes, you too. Don’t shake your head like you’re immune to bad decisions.) Whether it’s overspending, chasing the wrong priorities, or feeding unhealthy habits, it’s easy to justify what feels good in the moment—even when we know it’s not the right thing to do. And yes shopping, food and being too body conscious can all be addictions that we overindulge with in the moment.
But here’s the good news: we’re not stuck there.
Enter the hero of the story—Jesus.
He’s the ultimate rescuer, the one who steps into our mess and says, “I’ve got you.” Through Him, we can find forgiveness and a path back to God. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being real, owning up to our mistakes, and taking small steps in the right direction.
And that’s what this blog is all about: honest insights to help us build a stronger relationship with God and with ourselves. It’s about finding joy, peace, and purpose in the little things while staying grounded in what truly matters.
So, here’s your homework:
-
Take a moment to read Lamentations. (Trust me, it’s an eye-opener.)
-
Reflect on areas in your life where you’ve been chasing “shiny and new” without considering the consequences.
-
And most importantly, lean into God’s grace—it’s there for you, always.
Now for the fun part: worship time! Throw on the praise song, crank up the volume, and dance like nobody’s watching. Seriously, it’s the best cardio you’ll ever get.
Our worship song of the week is: Tasha Cobb Leonard – I’m Getting Ready (Live)
Enjoy, stay warm, and see you next week!
Prayer for the Week: Lord, thank you for loving me and accepting me as Your child. Help me to feel Your presence as You walk through this week with me knowing that no matter what I face this week, You have my back. Thanks for Your love and Your protection. Amen.

Thank you for the reminder because it’s definitely easy to get caught up in the new and shiny things without thinking long term.
Absolutely, new and shiny is what we love but we need to remember that everything that shines ain’t gold (Momma Quote). Thanks for reading.
