Knowledge to Ponder: Psalm 17: 7-12; Matthew 20: 1-16
Having God’s love? Honestly… it’s the best gift in the whole world. I can’t think of anything more valuable. Can you?
Think about it for a second—this massive, all-powerful God knows me. Little ol’ me. And He doesn’t just know me… He cares for me. That still blows my mind. It’s almost unbelievable—except I do believe it, because I’ve lived it.
I once read about a man in the UK who was about as far from God as you can get. He went to prison for attempted murder, and while he was there, he even attacked a guard—landing himself in solitary confinement. But in that lonely, locked-up space, something incredible happened.
He met Jesus.
The Holy Spirit began to work in his life, changing him from the inside out. The transformation was so obvious that prison officials went from treating him as dangerous to trusting him as a prison chaplain. When he was finally released, he met a young Christian woman, got married, and had children.
The writer of the article said they couldn’t believe the man they were talking to was the same one from the prison record. But that’s what God’s love does—it changes people in ways we can’t explain.
In Psalm 17:7–8, David prays, “Show me the wonders of your great love… keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” What a prayer! I love both parts of it—being the apple of God’s eye (because I know I’m His daughter) and being hidden in the shadow of His wings. That’s the kind of prayer you keep in your back pocket for the hard days—the “God, I need You to cover me right now” days.
And just in case you’re wondering… maybe you’re new to this faith thing and asking, “Does God love me the same as someone who’s been walking with Him for years?” The answer is an absolute YES. Jesus proves it in Matthew 20:1–16, where workers hired at different times of the day all get paid the same wage. In our culture, that might cause an uproar, but in God’s kingdom, it’s a picture of His generous, undeserved love.
That’s grace—it’s all grace. And grace always gives us far more than we deserve.
Sometimes, though, we get caught looking at someone else’s life and thinking, God’s blessing them more than He’s blessing me. But God knows each of us personally, and what He has for you is perfectly suited for you—not anyone else. If He only gave us what we’d earned, we’d all be in trouble.
Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have forgiveness now and His love forever. That’s the gift. That’s the treasure.
Job understood this, even in the middle of his deepest pain. In Job 13:15, he said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” Job knew that nothing—not loss, not suffering, not even death—could separate him from the love of God.
And that’s what I want you to hold onto too: whatever you’re going through right now, you can still cling to the wonders of God’s great love.
Three Takeaways About God’s Love:
- It’s personal – He knows you, sees you, and loves you exactly as you are.
- It’s generous – His blessings are never earned; they’re given out of pure grace.
- It’s unshakable – No hardship, failure, or season of life can make Him stop loving you.
So stop feeling sorry for yourself and start showing some gratitude for the one that loves you never stops, no matter what!
Reflection Question:
When was the last time you truly paused to let God’s love sink in — not just as a truth you know, but as a reality you feel in your heart?
Prayer: Lord, I call you today. I need You to help me see Your love. Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. Lord, thank you for your extraordinary generosity to me. May I never be envious of others. Thank you that I can know that I am loved now and into eternity. Lord, thank you that although there is so much that I do not understand in this world, I can trust in your wonderful love. Help me today and every day to continue to wonder at your great love for me and see your presence in my life. Amen
