Peace in the Middle of the Storm

Knowledge to Ponder: Matthew 8: 23-26

What is that commotion outside?

I paused, listening closely. Is that the wind?

Wow. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw next.

The sky had gone from calm to chaotic in what felt like seconds. The wind was howling, trees were swaying like they were caught up in some wild dance, and then—blink—the lights flickered off and back on.

My heart skipped a beat. Was this a hurricane? But wait—we don’t get hurricanes in Atlanta.

I’ll be honest, storms always make me antsy, especially since I live alone. So, I did what I usually do when nerves hit: I headed upstairs to my bedroom, my little safe haven. Still feeling uneasy, I grabbed my phone and texted my daughter. Sometimes, just reaching out makes you feel a little less alone, you know?

But as I sat there, phone in hand, it hit me like a gentle reminder straight from heaven:

Kim, you are never alone. God is always here with you, through every storm.

And just like that, the anxiety was gone. The wind still roared outside, but peace settled inside me. I knew—I knew—I was safe.

Life’s Storms Hit Just Like That

Isn’t it funny how life works the same way?

One minute, everything’s smooth sailing. You’re holding on to your peace, cruising through the day, and then—bam!—an unexpected issue comes storming in.

It knocks the wind out of you. Anxiety creeps in. You feel isolated, like you’re the only one facing the chaos.

But here’s the truth: You are never alone.

No matter how fierce the storm or how sudden the hit, God is right there, holding you steady.

Storms Don’t Last, But God Does

Here’s the thing about storms—they come, and they always go.

We can’t predict when they’ll hit or how intense they’ll be. But the one constant in every storm? God.

He’s the anchor that keeps us from drifting. The steady hand that holds us when the winds try to knock us down. And He’s always waiting on the other side of the storm, ready to lead us into peace.

When the storm at my house finally passed, I breathed a sigh of relief. But more than that, I felt grateful. Grateful for the peace that carried me through.

Two verses immediately came to mind:

🕊️ Psalm 46:1-2 (NLT)
“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.”

🌊 Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”

That tiny whisper reminding me I wasn’t alone? That was the Holy Spirit nudging me toward peace. And once I stepped into that peace, I stayed there.

The storm could rage all it wanted—I had already decided that peace would be my dwelling place.

This Space is Our Safe Harbor

That’s what this space is all about:

💛 Finding peace while riding out life’s storms.
💛 Sharing our stories, lifting each other up.
💛 Worshiping, praying, laughing, and yes, even crying if we need to.
💛 Holding each other close as we lean into the peace that passes all understanding—the kind only God can give.

How Did I Ride Out the Storm?

Simple: I worshiped.

I cranked up my worship song and danced all over the house, storm be darned.

So, what do you say? Join me. Put on your favorite praise song, turn it up loud, and dance like peace already won—because it has.

Storms will come, but peace can stay.

Prayer:  Lord God thank You for being the God of peace and protection for us.  No matter what the situation, You are there for us.  Thank You for knowing when and what I need to hear from You to calm my fears and anxieties.  Help us to realize that even when we can’t see Your presence we need to seek You to FEEL Your presence so that we can have the reassurance of Your protection and love.  Lord we thank You for this storm and Your ability to bring peace to us even in the midst of life’s storms.  Continue to watch over us and protect us.  In Jesus’ name. AMEN
