Knowledge to Ponder: Matthew 5: 14-16
I’ll be honest—I once had a client who drained every ounce of my energy.
She was always complaining. Always criticizing. It seemed like no matter what I did, she found something to be upset about. At first, I didn’t see the red flags, so I took her on. And let me tell you, I regretted it.
I dreaded our coaching calls. I hated talking to her. She was pulling me into her negative energy, and before I knew it, I started complaining too. I wasn’t just frustrated with her—I was frustrated with myself for allowing her negativity to affect me.
I was stuck in this cycle for months. I felt like I needed coaching myself to deal with her.
Until one day, it hit me.
I already had the best coach to guide me through this—God.
Instead of letting her negativity consume me, I needed to be the light in her life. I needed to stop avoiding her complaints and start redirecting them.
So, I switched things up.
Every time she complained, I gently turned it around into something positive. I challenged her to shift her perspective, to see the good, even in frustrating situations. I encouraged her to be open to positivity, because only then could she start seeing real changes in her life.
At first, she resisted. But slowly, over time, she began to change. Her mindset shifted. Her words became lighter. Her energy transformed.
I was so proud of her.
And more than that, I was humbled—because God had been working on me too.
Your Light Matters—Everywhere You Go
We live in a world where negativity and darkness can easily overshadow joy. And if we’re not careful, we can get sucked into that darkness, just like I did.
But here’s what I realized: it’s our job as Christians to shine light wherever we go—not just at church, but in our everyday lives, even in business.
As a business owner, I meet people every day who are hurting. Some of them may never step foot inside a church. Some may be battling struggles no one knows about. And sometimes, the light you carry might be the only light they see.
Jesus tells us this in Matthew 5:14-16:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Your light isn’t just about you—it’s about drawing others closer to God. When people see the way you handle challenges, the way you extend grace, the way you stay hopeful even when things don’t go your way—they’ll take notice. They’ll wonder: What is it that makes them so different?
And that curiosity can lead them to Him.
Faith and Business—They’re Not Separate
Some people believe that faith and business should be kept separate, that being a strong Christian means setting aside your beliefs when it comes to making money, negotiating deals, or handling difficult clients.
But I don’t believe that.
I believe our faith should permeate every part of our lives—including our businesses.
✨ If someone doesn’t pay you what they owe, don’t stress—God will work it out.
✨ If someone is rude or disrespectful, pray for them and keep moving forward.
✨ If someone wrongs you in business, trust that God sees everything—and He will handle it.
We don’t have to be hard-hearted and ruthless to be successful. We don’t have to match negative energy with more negativity. Instead, we can choose to be the light.
And when we do that—when we allow God to shine through us, even in the most challenging moments—we’ll watch Him show up and show out in ways we never expected.
Let’s Be the Light
So, the next time you encounter someone who seems impossible to deal with—whether it’s a client, a coworker, or even a stranger at the grocery store—pause for a moment and remember:
🌟 You might be the only light they see today.
🌟 Your kindness, patience, and faith might be the very thing that changes their heart.
🌟 And when you let God’s light shine through you, amazing things can happen.
Let’s carry that light boldly—wherever we go, in whatever we do.
Now tell me—have you ever had an experience where you had to shift your mindset and be the light in a tough situation? I’d love to hear about it in the comments! 💛✨
