Building A Relationship With You
The 2nd most important relationship in your life. Your relationship with God should trump the one you have with yourself for sure, but your relationship with you is still super important. It’s the way you see yourself, the things you think about yourself and the decisions you make that sum up the relationship you have with yourself. If you can be kind to others, you most definitely need to learn to be kinder to yourself first. Give it a try!
Understand the You you are. I know that sounds funny but think about it. Do you really understand why you do and say some of the things you do and say? If most of us are honest with ourselves, the answer would be “not really”. We need to continually evaluate who we are in those moments where we don’t understand “the why” of what we say and do and ask the tough questions to figure that out. What are you really thinking? What are you really feeling? Understand that about yourself so you can honestly (not egotistically) validate what you are thinking and feeling so you can keep it moving and build better relationships.
Stop trying to please the world. It’s okay to say no and block out the world to give yourself time for You. You can’t please everyone and be all things to all people. Saying no is indeed an art form. You don’t have to be rude or ugly; you can artfully say no and leave that person feeling great about your no! Master that. Put your needs first and it will be simpler to say yes when you want to and really mean it. You will feel a whole lot better about your relationships and be more of control of who you are in those relationships.
To thine own self be true. Love you, boo! Yes, I mean You! Most of the time we run around from relationship to strained relationship without taking the time to stop, reflect, evaluate and re-center ourselves. How draining is that? Learning to love you first (after your love for God) puts you in a place to always feel validated and genuine. It allows the true beauty and essence of who you are to shine through. Don’t let the world take that from you. That’s why we run around pretending, lying and trying to be things we aren’t. Nooooo……stop that madness. Love you as truly and unconditionally as you love God and everyone else. This takes practice but I know you can do it. 😉
